IPSENTA Success Story

Mike Buckley has now set up his own hypnotherapy practice after a long and difficult journey, Mike explains,
“On Saturday 18th May 2002, I was happily making my way to Norwich on a motorcycle. About three weeks later I began to realise I had been in a nasty accident.
Nobody knew what happened, but I had sustained various injuries, the worst being to my left leg. A friend said my leg looked like a train accident!
Doctors almost amputated the leg and told me I might never walk on it again. I had a difficult time in hospital and during my subsequent time at home, recovering. I was unable to walk and lived five flights of stairs up! I gradually forced my way back to some sort of normality within frustrating circumstances.
After a while I knew I had developed post trauma stress. I found I had to fight every day just to do the normal things, like make a cup of tea; so going out was a huge task. I was experiencing severe anxiety, I saw the world in a very different way and was terrified. Although doctors and other health professionals did a fantastic job on my physical body, any help for the mental and emotional issues was non-existent. I had been trained superbly as a psychotherapist, which actually made things harder as I thought I should be able to sort myself out.
Through forcing myself to confront my fears, I began to experience people and my environment in more positive ways. I continued to have pain and problems walking, but I did have a choice. In October 2006, after making an empowered decision, I had my left leg amputated voluntarily. With all that I had learned and my knowledge of hypnotherapy, I took charge of my recovery this time round.
Within two weeks I was driving myself to Addenbrookes Hospital. Before Christmas I was walking and in May 2007, exactly five years after the accident, I climbed Mount Snowdon to challenge myself and raise some funds for EAST, a local charity enabling disabled people to sail.
By this time I wanted to work properly and so I signed up to IPSENTA to see if I could develop a psychotherapy and hypnotherapy practice in Ipswich. I wanted to pass on to others the skills and knowledge to be able to empower themselves to deal with the issues of their past and the challenges that life undoubtedly brings.
IPSENTA have taught me a great deal about the skills one needs to run a business.
Through them I have realised that to stay in business and be successful, I need to regard my career as a business, not just a therapy I’m good at. Many people looking to become self-employed are trained and experienced but are desperately short of business acumen and basic business know-how. The people at IPSENTA go a long way to deal with this and I am grateful for their superb guidance”.
